Zakwe Lists His Top 3 Most Significant Songs In His Career & Why

In an exclusive interview with SA Hip Hop Mag, acclaimed artist Zakwe shared the three songs he considers to be the most significant in his career. He provided a detailed explanation for each of his choices, revealing the personal and professional reasons they hold such a special place for him.
Ngiyabonga
Zakwe describes “Ngiyabonga” as a “comeback song” that is deeply personal. He explains, “For me it was a comeback song that was very personal, it speaks about my family, about the past, it’s a very important joint for me and it’s available on iCebisa.” This song holds a special place in his heart as it allowed him to express his gratitude and reflect on his life’s journey.
Sebentin
“Sebentin” is a song that Zakwe holds very close to his heart, calling it a “gift from my friend.” He reveals that the song was recorded in his absence and was the one that elevated his career to the “next level.” The collaboration with Cassper Nyovest was particularly impactful, with Zakwe noting, “And when Cassper got on it he took it to another level.”
Roots
Zakwe’s third choice is “Roots,” which he values for the collaboration it brought. He considers it a significant achievement to have his “idol,” Stogie T, agree to be on the track. “It’s a very important joint to get your idol agreeing (Stogie T) to be on a song. Never in a million years did I think I will ever get to be on a song with him,” he says. Similar to “Sebentin,” he sees this collaboration as a gift. He concludes by expressing his immense respect for Stogie T, stating, “I really put Stogie T on my top 10, he is my idol.”
Zakwe’s choices reveal that the most significant songs in his career are not just his biggest hits, but tracks that hold deep personal meaning. Whether it’s a song that marks a powerful comeback, a surprise gift that propels his career forward, or a collaboration with a lifelong idol, each of these three songs represents a pivotal moment in his artistic and personal journey. His selections highlight the importance of authenticity, gratitude, and respect for his craft and fellow artists.
