Emtee Granted Bail After Spending Night In Police Custody. In a plot twist no one saw coming, South African rapper Mthombeni Ndevu, better known as Emtee, traded his freshly shaved head for a night behind bars only to walk free on R1,000 bail on Thursday, June 11, 2026.
The Roll Up hitmaker appeared in the Midrand Magistrate’s Court, flanked by his longtime friend Sjava, family, and his manager, all there to show solidarity. The charge? Allegedly violating a 2023 protection order granted to his estranged wife, Nicole Chinsamy, which bars him from verbal abuse or social media harassment.
According to the Sowetan publication, the trouble escalated on June 4 when Emtee reportedly showed up unannounced at Nicole’s Midrand home. While she was bathing their young daughter (with the other two children at school), he allegedly stormed into the kitchen, grabbed a knife, and issued fiery threats against her brother and the entire family tree.
He handed himself over to Midrand police on Wednesday morning and was formally charged.
Bail conditions are strict and crystal clear:
- Zero posts or indirect jabs about Nicole on any social media platform, good, bad, or indifferent.
- No direct or indirect communication with her.
- Immediate removal of any existing online content referencing her. Break these rules, and it’s back to a cell.
This latest chapter comes hot on the heels of Emtee’s very public glow-up. Just days earlier, on June 6, he dramatically chopped off his signature dreadlocks and dropped a heartfelt statement thanking his parents, siblings, and fans for their unwavering support. He framed the haircut as a symbol of “growth, renewal, and a positive outlook,” signalling a fresh start and renewed purpose.
Yet the couple’s turbulent history continues to play out publicly. Images of bruises and damaged property have circulated online, and while Emtee filed for divorce in April 2023, the legal separation remains ongoing despite brief reconciliations and the birth of their third child.
Emtee is due back in court on July 13.
