The milestone makes the project the first album in the late Cape Town rapper’s catalogue to reach the 5 million mark, giving his debut another significant moment in an already impactful career.

Released in 2023, Igazi, Iinyembezi Nombilo, which translates to “Blood, Sweat and Tears”, introduced listeners to Bravo Le Roux’s distinct approach to Xhosa hip-hop. The project drew heavily from his experiences growing up in Khayelitsha and his connection to township life across Cape Town and the Eastern Cape.

Bravo’s storytelling stood out for its honesty and cultural grounding, with the rapper moving comfortably between isiXhosa, Afrikaans and English. His ability to capture everyday township experiences while maintaining a sharp lyrical edge helped the album connect with audiences far beyond his hometown.

Among the project’s standout moments was “Umntu” featuring Sjava, which went on to earn gold certification, as well as “Makhwenkwe” featuring iFani. The album also featured collaborations with artists including YoungstaCPT and Digital Sangoma. A deluxe edition was released in 2024, adding further depth to the original project.

The achievement comes months after Bravo died in Switzerland on 22 January 2026 at the age of 30. Since his passing, listeners have continued returning to his catalogue, allowing his music and stories to remain part of the South African hip-hop conversation.

Before his debut album, Bravo had already established himself as one of the notable voices representing authentic Xhosa rap. Projects such as International Gubevu, alongside live performances and collaborations with prominent names in the local hip-hop scene, helped build a reputation around his unapologetic storytelling and commitment to his roots.

The 5 million Spotify streams therefore represent more than a streaming figure. They reflect the lasting connection Bravo created with listeners through music that documented his surroundings, experiences and perspective.

With Igazi, Iinyembezi Nombilo continuing to attract listeners years after its release, Bravo Le Roux’s blood, sweat and tears are still finding their way into new ears.
