Jay Jody Reflects On His Music Career Evolution: “I’m Very Satisfied With My Story.” South African hip-hop artist Jay Jody has opened up about the winding road that has shaped his career, reflecting on his evolution from his early days with Westview to his time with Ambitious and Benchmark, and ultimately his journey as a solo artist.

Speaking about the different chapters of his career, Jay Jody described the experience as “wild”, saying each stage has played a role in helping him discover more about himself as an artist and as a person.

“It’s been wild. It’s been a crazy journey, bro. I’ve been finding myself in every chapter of that entire thing,” Jay Jody said.

The rapper traced his journey back to Westview, recalling a time when the core Wrecking Crew consisted of himself, A-Reece and TK. What started as a small creative unit eventually expanded and developed into something much bigger, leading to the formation of Benchmark and opening new doors in his career.

Jay Jody has since carved out his own path as a solo artist, while continuing to collaborate with other musicians and expand his reach beyond South Africa. He said his current chapter includes working on collaborations and travelling internationally, experiences he views as a natural part of the journey he was meant to take.

“From Westview, making music, and we were the original Wrecking Crew, which was just me, Reece, and TK. And then it added up, and then it became what it became, Benchmark, and then my solo thing, and then now I’m doing a couple of collabs with people, I’m travelling the world,” he explained.

Rather than dwelling on the twists and turns of his career, Jay Jody appears to embrace them as necessary steps in his development. For the rapper, every chapter has brought lessons, growth and a deeper understanding of who he is.

“I’ve been through what I’m supposed to go through for my journey, and I think it’s gorgeous for me because it can only come with greatness,” he added.

His reflection also carried a strong sense of ownership. After navigating different creative eras and establishing himself beyond the groups and collectives associated with his early career, Jay Jody said he has no regrets about the road that brought him here.

“So yeah, it’s been dope, bro. I’m very satisfied with my story, and it’s mine,” he concluded.

For Jay Jody, the journey is clearly more than a list of affiliations or career milestones. From Westview and the early creative circle with A-Reece and TK to Benchmark, his solo work and international collaborations, each chapter has contributed to a story he now proudly calls his own.
