Okmalumkoolkat Sets Official Release Date For Long-Awaited Album “iTheku eThekwini”

Okmalumkoolkat Sets Official Release Date For Long-Awaited Album “iTheku eThekwini.” Okmalumkoolkat has officially put a date on one of the most anticipated albums in his catalogue, confirming that iTheku eThekwini will be released this month.

The Durban creative announced the release date on Instagram through a striking piece of artwork, accompanied by the simple date “15/10/2026.” The visual brings together several elements closely associated with Durban, including Moses Mabhida Stadium, golden beaches, Zulu dancers and layers of urban imagery, creating a collage that reflects the city’s cultural and creative identity.
For fans who have followed the project’s journey, the announcement brings an end to a lengthy wait. Okmalumkoolkat has been teasing iTheku eThekwini for years, with the project shaped by his reflections on a particularly complex period between 2020 and 2025.
The artist previously described the album as one of his most challenging bodies of work, with its music intended to capture the weight, information and changing realities of those years. Rather than rushing the project to meet festive-season expectations, he chose to take his time and build a record that could properly reflect the period that inspired it.
Several tracks have already given listeners a glimpse into the album’s direction. These include “Into Yabantu Ababili” and “Soon As I Land” featuring Tony Dayimane, with the music continuing Okmalumkoolkat’s distinctive fusion of futuristic hip-hop, experimental sounds and Durban’s cultural energy.
The announcement quickly drew a strong reaction from his supporters, with the comments section filling up with fire emojis, dancing stickers and messages celebrating the long-awaited news. References to Spova Gang, “Gqom Believe” and the excitement around the album reflected just how closely fans have been following the project.
iTheku eThekwini follows a catalogue that includes the gold-certified Mlazi Milano, released in 2016, uShukela eTiyeni from 2022, as well as a run of experimental singles and EPs. The new album arrives as another chapter in an artistic career that has consistently moved between music, visual art and broader cultural expression.
With its title rooted in Durban, iTheku eThekwini also represents a return to the city that has remained central to Okmalumkoolkat’s creative identity. The album is set to arrive on 15 October 2026.
