We might as well call 2017 the year of drama for many SA record label because it’s seems every week, there’s always news about an SA rapper leaving their record label. This week was not different either, Mr Sidlukotini dropped a big one on us when he announced that he is no longer part of Mabala Noise.

Here are 10 things you must know about the Mabala Noise Drama:

Mabala Noise was unaware of Riky Rick’s plans to leave the record label

Local rapper Riky Rick tweeted on Monday that he has decided to leave Mabala Noise. Then the Mabala Noise’s chairperson Reggie Nkabinde and PR head, Hloni ‘Mhlo’ Gumede was reached out for comment. Hloni said the following, “Riky is still a part of Mabala Noise. We cannot control what Riky says on social media but he has signed a contract that is valid for the next 3 years.”

Where it all began

Last week, Riky was not included in the line-up for Mabala Noise’s concert to celebrate their wins at The Metro FM Awards. This comes after the rapper used his acceptance speech at the Metro Fm awards to slam the music industry. Riky famously made a controversial speech at the event in which he referred to his record label.

The record label wants their stuff back.

According to a close source, Mabala Noise has demanded that the rapper return the luxury vehicle they bought him and pay back the money given to him as an advance. This is said to amount to more than R12 000 000.

The record label wants Riky to put his pride aside.

Mabala Noise spokesperson, Mhlo Gumede explained that if the star wishes to leave, he may – but only if he honours his contract, puts his pride aside and communicates with the record label effectively rather than through social media.

The record label threatening his family.

Riky Rick, took to Twitter on Monday morning to announce that he has officially resigned from record label Mabala Noise. In one of the tweets, Riky Rick said the label had threatened the future of his family. “At this point they have taken back what they think makes me happy. They have threatened the future of me and my family. They want us gone. They gonna want you to believe that I’m crazy or I’m playing politics. NO. IM JUST WOKE.”

Even Julius Malema knew what was coming

Malema, who has had a longstanding beef with the record label, took to Twitter on Monday afternoon to add his voice to the chorus of reaction to Riky’s departure from Mabala Noise. He claimed that he knew Riky and Major League DJz personally and advised them against signing to the label.

Julius Malema’s predictions

The label came under scrutiny in 2016 after Julius Malema accused the company of using government tenders to fund the business,  and paying new artists up to R5-million to sign with them but the label’s co owner, Reggie Nkabinda, who is the ANC Youth League’s treasurer general, denied the accusations.

Corruption in the record label

Malema made headlines in August last year when he said during a live press conference that the company, which is headed up by ANC Youth League treasurer general Reggie Nkabinde, paid no less than R5 million to artists signed to the label. He further added that Mabala was allegedly funded through “dodgy government tenders”.Reggie rubbished the claims and said that the company was looking into taking legal action against the EFF leader.

Riky is called an ungrateful bastard

Following Riky Rick’s announcement that he has left record label Mabala Noise, its boss and ANCYL treasurer Reggie Nkabinde took to social media to share a message that has left many saying it was about the rapper. Taking to Instagram, he wrote: “People were created to be loved. Things were created to be used. The reason why the world is in chaos is because things are being loved and people are being used.”

Someone has to be blamed

Following rapper Riky Rick’s announcement that he is leaving Mabala Noise, his fans have been looking for someone to point fingers at for the drama at the record label. While some, such as EFF leader Julius Malema and UDM leader Bantu Holomisa, blamed the label’s boss, Reggie Nkabinde, one Twitter user took a bold step and blamed it on actor and sangoma Letoya Makhene.

“Letoya Makhene is part of Mabala Noise. Her witchcraft is the reason this company will never see the end of day! All the best Riky Rick,” they wrote.
