“There are only 2 urban mainstream artists who are independent and I’m one of them” says JR. The superstar has been seeing a lot of established artists preaching independence and then they go and sign deals with majors.

“As established artists, we can’t preach independence and then go and do the exact opposite. The game needs money and youngins ain’t got that” he sad. “We quick to tell kids “go be independent” but do we tell them how much money independence requires?? Hence some artists still go to majors. It’s “cool” to be rebellious, but that cool rebellious factor comes at a price… are you willing to pay??” asked JR.
