PdotO Defends Thriving SA Hip Hop Scene. PdotO stands among the voices and artists who adamantly refute the idea that the rap scene in South Africa is dead. Taking to Twitter (X), the Pretoria-based rapper said that there is no such thing as SA Hip Hop dead. He argued that a lot of music is being released and the rap scene is alive and well.

“Whoever Telling You SA Hip Hop dying Don’t listen to em There’s so many great artists with great projects out now,” PdotO said. Recently, the 39-year-old rapper released a 16-track album titled Siphelele: Book I. His significant contribution to the culture underscores his relevance in the ongoing discourse surrounding the state of SA Hip Hop, particularly as one of the active artists consistently putting out music.

While PdotO champions the vitality and influence of SA Hip Hop, his fellow rapper Ex Global staunchly maintains the belief that the genre is no longer as influential as it used to be. “My boy just called me right now, shattered with the bad PR SA hip hop got last week. To him? It’s finished, it’s done. The DJs killed it for him after most rappers disappointed him. There’s no point in us going out doing the most for the culture, it’s over as it stands.” a candid Ex Global wrote.
