According to EyeWitness, Khan was arrested over the Easter weekend alongside 14 others as part of an ongoing investigation into an alleged tender corruption syndicate that is believed to have cost the university millions of rand.

Khan, who owns The Pentagon Group, a private security firm that has provided security for big-name celebrities like Michael Jackson, Oprah Winfrey, and Snoop Dogg amongst others, appeared at the Dimbaza Magistrates court on Tuesday alongside the other accused. The group is facing a range of charges including fraud, corruption and racketeering. In the wake of these whirlwind allegations, four of the accused university employees have been suspended.

Authorities are tight-lipped on the specifics of Khan’s alleged involvement, but it highlights the ongoing battle against corruption in South Africa, which has infiltrated even institutions of higher learning. Khan was recently seen serving as a security personnel for Tony Forbes, the father of AKA, at the Durban Magistrates Court. This was during the appearance of five men in connection with the murder of the late rapper and his friend Tibz in 2023.
