Gigi Lamayne Reacts To Sho Madjozi’s Views On Light Skinned Women Being More Privileged

Twitter has last night and this morning been buzzing with opinions on colourism with the highlight of light skinned women having more opportunities as opposed to the dark skinned ones.

The debate had been attended by a number of celebrities including the likes of Ntsiki Mazwai, DJ Zinhle, Boity, Phila Madlingozi and Pearl Thusi who gave rise to the topic. Some tweeps said that both Sho Madjozi and Pearl Thusi have achieved what they had because of the colour of their skin.

Sho Madjozi wrote a thread of tweets stating her views on the colorism issues. “I cant be expected to stop being great because colorism exists. But I can try to use my platform to speak out against colorism, I MUST speak out when I see people being treated unfairly because of color and I can try to amplify the voices of talented dark skinned women.”

“Sometimes women won’t be given a chance unless they’re light skinned, half-naked, have a big boody (but with a small waist,) wear a weave etc. not just in the entertainment industry but in corporate and other spaces as well,” she added.

Here’s how Gigi reacted:
