Despite the prevailing sentiment, there remains a faction within the SA Hip Hop community that staunchly believes the genre is far from dead. They argue that the sheer volume of music produced and the undeniable quality of many releases since 2015 serve as evidence of its ongoing vitality.

Famed producer and rapper PH Raw took to Instagram to advocate for the continuous growth of SA Hip Hop, asserting that there is still abundant potential for the genre to dominate the world stage. According to PH, the groundwork for this dominance has already been laid for that to be achieved.

He emphasized the importance of refining the craft and pushing creative boundaries, believing that such efforts could not only restore the genre to its former glory but also elevate it to a position of global supremacy.

“SA Hip Hop is in perfect position to lead the whole genre, WORLDWIDE… including the US. Actually, it’s already happening! They are watching! Think Big!” PH Raw shared.

He continued; “THE ABILITY TO ACTUALLY RAP, IDENTITY IS GONNA BE THE MAIN THING…LIKE IT WAS IN THE 90s. EVERYTHING ELSE (singing, dancing, SPOTIFY NUMBERS) is gonna come after those those 2 things.”

PH Raw’s observations offer valuable insights into the driving forces behind the rapid ascent of SA hip-hop onto the global stage. As the genre undergoes continual evolution and gathers momentum, it becomes increasingly evident that South African artists are on the brink of making a lasting impression on the international music scene.
