As the nation heads to the polls this year, it’s not just conscious music that holds the potential for the much-needed change anticipated by South Africans. Instead, their active participation in the National Elections could serve as the lifeline necessary to alleviate the myriad hardships gripping the country.

Renowned South African hip-hop veteran, Ntukza, took to social media to convey a significant message to the youth of South Africa. In his statement, the rapper emphasized the crucial responsibility resting on the shoulders of the younger generation to ensure their registration for the upcoming fiercely contested National Elections this year.

“I hope everyone is good from wherever you are at this moment in our lives as South Africans. My message for this week/month is for all young people in this country as we gear towards the National elections,” Ntukza wrote.

“Please ensure that if you haven’t registered to vote before, go to the nearest voting station and register as really ‘your voice is your vote.’ It is mentioned almost everywhere these days by yourselves that ‘2024 is our 1994,’ however, it is easier said than done so make sure you show up for these elections because it is all about your future.

“Sitting back and watching everything unfold on social media isn’t enough to affect real change especially when we are faced with so many challenges in our country,” he added. The ex-Teargas member also highlighted the historically low turnout of young voters in previous elections, expressing his hope for a shift in this trend. He looks forward to witnessing increased participation among the youth, envisioning a collective effort to bring about positive change in the fortunes of the country.

“In prior elections, I noticed how young people didn’t really put their foot forward and went to the polls to vote but this year my wish is to see young people employed and unemployed going to make their mark. The registration dates for voters have been set for the 3rd and 4th of February 2024, young people take videos of yourselves at the voting stations and show the nation that you care about not only your future but also those who are coming after you, the next generation,” a passionate Ntukza said.
