Burna Boy’s Past Views On Xenophobia In SA Might Refrain Him From Performing In Africa Unite Concert, Here’s Why

Burna Boy’s Past Views On Xenophobia In SA Might Refrain Him From Performing In Africa Unite Concert, Here’s Why. Nigerian award winning artist Burna boy could possibly no longer perform at the African Unite upcoming concert.

An official statement of complaints by Tshwane Entertainment Collective has been issued to the Minister of Arts & Culture Nathi Mthethwa. One of the complaints listed Burna Boy to be refrained from performing at the event because of his past views on Xenophobia in South Africa.

Back in September Burna Boy made the list of Nigerian citizens who expressed raged towards the xenophobic attacks that were taking place in South Africa. What ignited the discussion is AKA’s tweet where he mentioned how “he is tired of losing to Nigerians”. The tweet caused major chaos.

For AKA it got to a point where he received death threats messages from Nigerians on social media. Burna Boy also threatened to punch AKA when he sees him even warned him that he better have bodyguards when they meet. All these actions were believed to have been encouraged by Burna’s reactions and incite of violence towards AKA.

Despite mentioning how he would never set foot in SA, he was a late last month announced as one of the acts to perform at the upcoming African Unite Concert.

The statement delivered to Nathi Mthethwa stated that: “Your department is funding an event headlined by an artist who goes by the name Burna Boy.

“Whoever may have deemed that the country needs a PR exercise of this nature would have done so largely as a result of the callous, misleading, and unwarranted incitement by this artist. Not only did he spread falsehood through his extensive platform, he literally incited violence and hate. He further promised to inflict violence on locals before you give your government an ultimatum which you seen to have received and succumbed to.”

The Minister hasn’t publicly responded yet to the statement.
