“Coloured culture has been hidden a lot,” YoungstaCPT On His Plans To Expose His Heritage

“Coloured culture has been hidden a lot,” YoungstaCPT On His Plans To Expose His Heritage. Following up in his pursuit of illuminating the culture of Coloured people and putting the race into the map, YoungstaCPT gives out a little more.

Speaking to Mail & Guardian the rapper expressed his will to give exposure to the culture that has been hidden for ages. The first move in getting the message was through his award winning album 3T. Now he is set to use various media platforms to get spread the word.

“Coloured culture has been hidden. It’s easy to hide. Now that we have these tools at our disposal — the internet and nontraditional media platforms — this is our time to speak. Maybe the world will see us through this instead of having to read a newspaper.”

YoungstaCPT described the songs on 3T as “reporting”. “It’s not like you’re going to listen to my album then come [to my home] and see another thing,” he explained. Most of what can be learned can be found on the album.

In dismantling stereotypical ideas about his community, the prolific Capetonian rapper gives as much attention to the bad as he does to the good. In The Cape of Good Hope he raps.

“Welcome to the Cape of Good Hope, call it Skolliewood/ Riyadh Roberts robbing from the rich, call him Robin Hood/ Colonialism shook us, we got off to a rocky start/ Now we building empires and calling it Grassy Park/ I’ve never seen democracy, Skaap Kraal to Ottery.”

The rapper promises to deliver more information to educate people of his Heritage.
