When female rappers started taking interest in Hip hop and realised they could go big if they embrace their talents, it questioned the state of patriarchy. It wasn’t until international female stars like Missy Elliott, Eve, Lil Kim and Nicki Minaj wormed their way in and started winning that females gained recognition.

South Africa has the likes of Nadia Nakai, Rouge, Moozlie, Dee Koala, Boity and Gigi Lamayne to say the least attempting to change the Hip hop narrative. As the predominant genre mostly in favour of the male audience, females didn’t have it easy. Female rappers simply put in the work and it left many impressed as equally as it took them by surprise.

Boity’s manager Bash Vision said it boldly that according to his observations females are far more greater than males in the industry.

“The Baddest remix was the only “female remix” that was ever needed! Women in rap are doing soooo much better than most males. This can’t still be a thing. I’m sorry,” tweeted Bash.

The manager went on to state that female rappers must stop referring to themselves as ‘female rappers’.

“The longer “female rappers” accept these “female remix” requests the longer they will be referred to as ‘female rappers’. I hate hate hate Male rappers putting putting “female rappers” who are doing waaaay better than them in this box,” he added.

Nadia Nakai and Gigi Lamayne agreed with Boity’s manager.
