“The idea of making that song was a literal shout out to all these Xhosa rapping kids” – Yanga Chief on BBAF. The rapper has explored afro-pop, and kwaito amongst being a rapper.

The Hard rapper joined Slikour for a sit-down interview about his journey as a rapper, the producers and friends that have carried him and the making of his 2020 album PopStar. Yanga specifically spoke about the making of his single off the album BBAF short for Boity Bad As F*ck.The song is out of the ordinary, in the sense that it does not follow the structural rules of a hip-hop track. Even though the track was not structurally correct, he went along with it because it’s his music.

He further commented on the song by mentioning the song is a dedication to the next generation of artists. “The idea of making that song was a literal shout out to all these Xhosa rapping kids that are rapping their asses off and day-to-day developing and redefining what Xhosa rap is”.

“It’s them just being more comfortable with owning it and not having to explain themselves, I wish we had a name for it that they could just rally behind. But it’s literally a shoutout to that style that has been birthed by maybe a Utatakho”, the rapper explained.
