SA Rappers With Their Own TV Shows. SA Rappers have expanded their brands to more than just hip-hop and have added other titles to their names.
Expanding one’s brand makes way for more income and a broader audience for their upcoming projects. Here is a list of 5 rappers who have added television host and executive producer to their titles and launched their own tv shows!
Khuli Chana – The Originators
Khuli Chana launched his show The Originators on Trace in November 2020. The show looks at the untold stories of SA rappers and gives fans a little bit more insight into their journeys coming up as rappers. A-Reece was the show’s first guest.
AKA – The Braai Show With AKA
AKA’s The Braai Show With AKA was first launched on his app AKA TV. The show then found it’s home on SABC 1 and has been booming since! The show has had a variety of guests including Minster Fikile Mbalula, sports presenter Robert Marawa and rappers Costa Titch and Nadia Nakai.
Nadia Nakai – The Naked Room
Nadia launched The Naked Room in collaboration with Channel O under her own production company Bragga Productions. She has interviews with people who shift the culture. She mentioned that the created the show because she wants to do more than just music and create a legacy for herself.
JR – Feel Good Live Sessions
JR’s Feel Good Live Sessions made waves when it was first released on YouTube. The show then made it’s television debut on MTV Base. Artists that performed stripped down versions of their music included AKA, A-Reece, Nasty C, Emtee and Riky Rick.
Stogie T – Freestyle Friday
Award Winning Rapper Stogie T, launched his Freestyle Friday brand in 2020 during the COVID-19 Pandemic. The brand expanded to a full television show and aired on Channel O featuring some of SA’s most prominent rappers. The show was featured the likes of Shane Eagle, Scoop Makhatini and Kwesta.
