Rouge Reacts To SA Hip Hop Missing Out On The Album Of The Year Category. Every musician in South Africa looks forward to the prestigious SAMA awards every year. Throughout all the categories are representations of SA Hip Hop, but some were disappointed that Hip Hop didn’t show up enough in the nominations.
The 27th Annual SAMA Award nominations were announced on the evening with 19th of May 2021 with fans and artists waiting on the edge of their seats waiting to see who will be nominated for which award. Popular hitmaker Rouge was left disappointed when the nominees for Album Of The Year were announced.
Unfortunately for the SA Hip Hop community, no SA Hip Hop albums were nominated in the Album Of The Year Category. She reacted to the nominates by writing “Yoh Hip Hop 💔”.
Nominations for the Album Of The Year album included Kabza De Small for I Am The King Of Amapiano: Sweet & Dust, Bongo Riot for Persistence, Black Motion for The Healers: The Last Chapter and Kabza De Small & DJ Maphorisa for Once Upon A Time In Lockdown.
SA Hip Hop did however show up in other categories.The Best Hip Hop Album category included Boity for 4436, Nadia Nakai for Nadia Naked II, Nasty C for Zulu Man With Some Power, Yanga Chief for Popstar and Zakwe & Duncan for their self titled collaboration.
Other SA rappers who were nominated in other categories include Sjava who was nominated for Best African Adult Contemporary Album, and Sho Madjozi who was nominated for Female Artist Of The Year and Best Traditional Album for her mixtape What A Life.
K.O’s Lucky Star music video also received a nomination for Best Produced Music Video. Big Zulu’s smash hit Mali Eningi featuring Riky Rick and Intaba Yase Dubai received a nomination for Best Collaboration.
