JR Weighs In On Artists Who Feel The Need To Start Their Own Record Labels

JR Weighs In On Artists Who Feel The Need To Start Their Own Record Labels. JR has smoothly transitioned to the business side of music and it seems he has managed to gain some success in the field. The rapper is now sharing his industry knowledge with fellow artists on his social media platforms.

Taking to Twitter, the rapper shared that, “It’s ok to be an artist and not start a label. It’s not a prerequisite to “make it” and sign people. Give yourself a chance, allow your career a chance to grow and reap the rewards of your hard work”. “Don’t let your one PROFITABLE business die to make another one survive,” he added.

The Vibin hitmaker’s words were well received on the timeline, with several tweeps praising what the rapper said. JR’s advice is not news that is new but it is something that artists should be reminded of, as at the end of the day not all artists are meant to be record labels boss’s and there is no law that one should be one.

Several rappers have started their own record labels and some have not been successful in doing so. The rise and fall of K.O’s record label Cashtime Life was highly publicized. K.O in 2017 shared with Drum Magazine that he no longer wanted to be responsible for anyone’s career and shifted his focus back to himself after being made to seem like the bad guy after rappers Kid X and Moozlie left his label.

“I have no regrets but if I had focused on myself instead of trying to help others from the beginning, I would have been far with my career. I will not be signing any more artists at CashTime Life. I don’t want to be responsible for anyone else. I want to focus on building my own brand,” he told Drum. “I gave people opportunities and I ended up looking bad when Kid X and Moozlie left. I will not allow that to happen again,” he added.

Recently Nadia Nakai revealed she had left Cassper’s Family Tree label and was looking into launching her own record label although it’s still in the early stages.
