Priddy Ugly Explains Why The Ambitiouz Deal Didn’t Work For Him
Priddy Ugly Explains Why The Ambitiouz Deal Didn’t Work For Him. Priddy Ugly’s sophomore album SOIL has the hip hop streets going wild as fans continue to appreciate the rapper’s efforts on the album. The rapper dropped his first album Egypt under his previous record label Ambitiouz Entertainment and in his interview on Slikour On Life, Priddy Ugly sheds light on the working relationship he had with the label, in terms of their vision for him as an artist.
Priddy Ugly and Slikour discuss how the rapper sounded on his first album and what led to the release of a deluxe version of Egypt. Priddy Ugly explains that the album Egypt was not very cohesive and tells Slikour that there are a lot of songs, he would have removed and that’s why he dropped the deluxe album, which starts off completely different, in terms of sequencing of song, than the original album. “At the time, I was with Ambitious entertainment and we were trying to put together like uh, they wanted hits you know,” the rapper explained.
Slikour then explains to the rapper that at the time he desired the success that the label was offering but he realized that the plan that the label had for him was not what he desired for himself. Slikour gave the rapper props for discovering that and being able to leave the label. “Me even joining ambitiouz entertainment because at the time they were at the time offering me things that I felt like I lacked and I knew I could still improve as an artist and as a brand which is what I went into and as a businessman which is what I went into there you know,” responded the rapper.
“What my focus was going into that type of situation, so as much as they wanted a successful commercial album from me I also wanted to prove that I could put out a successful commercial album that has songs,” he explains. Priddy continues and says that mandate at Ambitiouz was that he had to appeal to a wide spectrum in order to find his audience.
“We need to make this thing appeal to the three-year-old and the 60-year-old and you know that’s a wide spectrum and they like if you have a wider spectrum of people you can appeal to, you’re more likely to gain the audience that you’re looking for.”
Priddy then during the process of making his previous album realized that he is not the kind of artist who wants to appeal to such a wide audience “I guess through going through that process I realized that only afterwards, well while I was in the process of it actually, I’m not that type of artist I’m not uh this is not how I wanna present myself on my first album specifically. So I think coming into my second album and that’s why I really really wanted to rap. I really wanted to put together a cohesive rap album that’s transcendent like if it started smoothly it would end hard.”
