“So Much Capital Being Dropped So Early,” Scoop On Lucasraps Getting A Luxury Car, Big Crib Before Dropping Any Solid Project. LucasRaps recently announced that he has signed to major record label Def Jam Recording Africa. Whilst the signing is really great news, hip hop commentator Scoop Makhathini has shared that he hopes that everything goes well for the young rapper and that he does not fail into the trap that other young rappers have fallen into.
Scoop on the latest episode of POPcast with Ms Cosmo and guest host LootLove shared his concerns about so much capital being dropped on LucasRaps before he has even dropped a full body of work. The rapper is expected to drop his debut album 031 To The World under the label on October 1, he has already dropped a single, Slide, as his first offering under the record label.
Scoop shared that he wonders how does having so much capital dropped on him make Lucas feel as an artist, “How does he feel about so much capital being dropped so early?” Ms Cosmo then shared her thoughts that when you are Lucas’ age you don’t really care where the money comes from, Loot then added that an artist thinks that they will be able to make it back anyway. “It’s the belief in the music, the belief in the brand, the belief in the vibes like you’re mentioning somebody who’s done a lot of features but the album’s not out the buzz is there,” Ms Cosmo added.
Scoop explained to his co-hosts, his fears for the young rapper, “I’m also scared because, drowning in the ice, the big house, the big car, all of this before the work comes out, it’s scary! I’m not saying it’s not good, I’m saying it’s great because if I was a kid but yet again, you talk about kids, the deals that kids get into very young. You see how most of these deals pan out as an old person or as a mature person judging from whats happened in history. I would not know what the situation is but there is a part of me that goes, I hope this goes well, till the very end. Because the diamonds, the big ass mansion, the drop-top car, all this before a single that I can say would generate this much money, all this before an album that could generate this much money.“
“Already there I am going who is the person behind pumping so much and what are they looking to gain out of it?” Loot then responded to Scoop and said, “but you know what they’re looking to get out of it.” Scoop further explained that he knows what they will gain but what he is trying to say is will it leave Lucas intact. Scoop then adds that he has seen what has happened to other artists, who have gotten into similar situations with record labels. As to whether Lucas and Def Jam African will have a fruitful relationship, only time will tell.
