Jay Jody Shares His Thoughts On What Sparked ‘SA Hip Hop Is Dead’ Conversation. Rapper Jay Jody recently took to Twitter to weigh in on the long-running SA Hip Hop is dead conversation. The B3nchMarQ member spoke on what he thinks sparked the conversation. The hot SA Hip Hop conversation has recently resurfaced as Amapiano music is currently dominating the music scene in SA. The conversation is also fuelled by SA Hip Hop artists jumping on the Amapiano bandwagon. The SA Hip Hop community is standing their ground and claiming that the genre is still alive, just that there is a new competitor in town for the long-running genre.

It’s no secret that there are several factors behind the state of SA Hip Hop conversation. Jay Jody shared his thoughts on the matter and he boils it down, to fans of the genre waiting on Joburg media platforms to tell them what music is hot. Jay Jody also credited the internet for opening up another channel for artists to be able to be recognised. “The “sa hip hop is dead” convo also started because people with no Consumer Back Bone are still waiting for Goliwood Media platforms to tell them what a dope/hit song/album is. Thank God for the net though,” shared the rapper. The rapper shared these thoughts in response to a tweet, that spoke of Hip Hop being well and alive in certain parts of the country such as Pretoria, Cape Town and Durban and claimed that this was not the case for Joburg.

“HIP HOP IS WELL AND VERY MUCH ALIVE IN CAPE TOWN, DURBAN AND PRETORIA. SADLY WE CAN’T SAY THE SAME FOR JOZI NIGGAS AND THEY MAD!” read the tweet, that got Jay Jody’s attention. Joburg has become known as the place for Hip Hop acts to make it and the city does have history when it comes to the establishment of the genre in the country. However, Hip Hop acts have come out of different places in the country and gone to make it. One tweep responded and said that Jozi, Hip Hop still happening, as rappers such as Emtee, are still hot and happening.

The internet has also launched careers and allowed artists to make it without any co-signs. Costa Titch gained fame on social media and later blew up on mainstream media. Moving to Joburg is however a move that has helped elevate careers, rapper Blxckie gained fame after he moved Durban to the City Of Gold. The rapper has even admitted that staying in the city, took his career to new heights.  “Joburg is where it’s at man. The fact that people are now starting to hear more of my music and what I can do is a direct result of me deciding to stay over here,” he told Breakroom Africa.
