YoungstaCPT’s Unexpected Reaction To Being Nominated For #SAHHA2021’s Artist Of The Decade. YoungstaCPT‘s career spans more than a decade, but he believes his odds to win the ‘Artist of the Decade’ title at this year’s SA Hip Hop Awards are little to none.

The Capetown rapper left his fans spellbound after an unexpected reaction towards being nominated for the #SAHHA2021. Replying to a tweet that encompass a list of nominees for the Artist of the Decade, Youngsta CPT made some remarks mentioning that he is not sure if he deserved to be amongst SA Hip Hop Artist of the Decade. “I don’t even think I belong here.” He tweeted.

Despite the fact that he may have made a name for himself in the SA Hip Hop game. During an interview with TshisaLIVE Youngsta CPT made an indication that he could’ve been fine without the nomination.

“The reason I felt like that was because I didn’t win a Sama in my life and I’ve lost over someone who had nine songs only and I had 22 and I had won the album of the year that year … so my reason is not that I don’t deserve it, I just think that realistically, if I can’t win a Sama against someone who had nine songs, then how am I going to win artist of the decade against guys that have been doing this successfully since 2010,” he said.

“I’ve been doing this since 2010 but I only became successful in it in 2016 or so. There was work that the industry was not even paying attention to because I was doing it in Cape Town and as soon as I did a song in Joburg is when I became more recognisable … I’m not doubting myself, I’m just being realistic.” He explained.

Nonetheless, he is particularly fond of his apparel company, Y?Gen Apparel, which is nominated in the Best Local Brand category and which he wants to win. His new purpose is to ensure that more outstanding Cape Town musicians receive the recognition they deserve, and his current album Dreams Don’t Pay Bills, which he collaborated on with Shaney Jay, is another step in that direction.

“I feel like in terms of breaking new artists, Cape Town has a lot to offer but they don’t have that platform.” He said.
