Gigi Lamayne took to Twitter to issue a call to not only artists in the South African hip hop scene but to everyone involved in art and creativity. The rapper made it known that artists must not allow exploitation in the name of exposure to take advantage of their art and hunger.

“Dear artists, be careful of people using “exposure” to take advantage of your art and hunger. That goes for any artist. No matter what you do.” Tweeted Gigi Lamayne. This isn’t the first time the Ice Cream hitmaker has spoken out about how toxic the art world is.

The rapper previously revealed that she was body-shamed and called too dark for the industry. “Imagine your career struggling because you are too dark to love.” Said Gigi Lamayne. Gigi also remarked that she has had to fight for her place in the industry and believes that artists are cultural traitors.

“I’ve had to fight since I joined this industry. Your artists are worse though. They are traitors to the culture. I was apparently too dark and ugly to make it now people wanna smile? Why?”
