J. Cole dropped 7 Minute Drill off his surprise tape Might Delete Later addressing Lamar’s verse. “I got a phone call, they say that somebody dissing / You want some attention, it come with extensions,” Cole raps. “He still doing shows but fell off like ‘The Simpsons’ / Your first sh*t was classic, your last sh*t was tragic / Your second sh*t put n-s to sleep but they gassed it / Your third sh*t was massive and that was your prime / I was trailing right behind and I just now hit mine.”

Despite J. Cole’s reputation as one of the premier lyricists in hip-hop, his recent verse has faced significant scrutiny and generated a range of reactions. While some fans expressed disappointment, expecting a stronger response, others defended him, interpreting it as a potential warning shot with anticipation for more to follow.

Moreover, the discussion on J. Cole’s response to Kendrick Lamar’s verse has expanded to include input from several South African rappers. Renowned artists such as A-Reece, Jay Jody, L-Tido, and Zingah, among others, have joined the conversation, offering their unique perspectives on the discourse.

Taking to social media, L-Tido lauded J. Cole as the preeminent rapper in the current landscape, acknowledging his prowess. However, he countered that while Cole may excel in certain aspects, he falls short compared to Kendrick Lamar in consistently delivering a cohesive and impactful body of work.

“J Cole the best rapper in the world rite now! But he can’t be talking albums with Kendrick …. It’s a landslide Kendrick way superior in putting together a body of work!”

L-Tido’s comments emerged in response to J. Cole’s lyrics, where he criticized Lamar for releasing only four albums in twelve years, contrasting it with his prolific output. “Four albums in twelve years, n*gg*, I can divide / Sh*t, if this is what you want, I’m indulgin’ in violence,” raps J. Cole.

Drawing on his deep affection for hip hop and his profound understanding of its nuances, Zingah shared his thoughts on Cole’s retort to Lamar, revealing a sense of disappointment towards the Dreamville rapper.

Zingah suggested that perhaps the hip-hop culture is eagerly anticipating Drake’s intervention to salvage the situation, indicating that Cole’s response may have fallen short of making a significant impact. “Are we gonna keep it a bean about this Cole response?? 👀💔🤦🏽‍♂️ Seems we gonna need Drizzy to really do the shooting,” Zingah said.

Although some South African rappers criticized Cole’s response, A-Reece and Touchline Truth couldn’t contain their excitement upon the release of “7 Minute Drill.” The famed SA rappers enthusiastically praised the 39-year-old’s exceptional lyrical skills.
