Ex Global Admits SA Hip Hop Is Dead. Over the past decade, SA Hip Hop emerged as a dominant force in the South African music scene. However, the genre has recently encountered a significant downturn, with dwindling enthusiasm and appetite for SA Hip Hop music.
While some may point to the volume of music being released, the reality remains that the rap culture in South Africa continues to lag in various aspects. This encompasses not only the artists but also the DJs, who have faced criticism for not making significant contributions to the culture as anticipated.
At the moment, the conversation about Hip Hop as a genre is all focusing on the Drake and Kendrick Lamar ongoing debacle. This has led to SA Hip Hop fans and rappers hopping into that conversation. Ex Global is one of the SA rappers who has shared his opinion on Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s beef pointing out that the genre is still the best in the world.
“Can we all agree that Drake won by turning this around? The fact that they baited Kendrick for a week with fake news? And “ Whitney, when I say I’ll hit you back, it’s a lot safer, I promise “ . Hip Hop is truly the best genre in the world. What a time to be alive,” wrote Ex Global.
The rapper’s comments sparked a query from one of his followers, who challenged his admiration for US Hip Hop by asking what efforts South African rappers are making to elevate SA Hip Hop back to its former prominence. “What are you guys doing about SA Hip Hop though?“
In response, the Holy Trinity chanter firmly expressed the view that SA Hip Hop has lost its appeal and declared the genre dead, citing recent bad publicity as a contributing factor.
“My boy just called me right now, shattered with the bad PR SA hip hop got last week. To him? It’s finished, it’s done. The DJs killed it for him after most rappers disappointed him. There’s no point in us going out doing the most for the culture, it’s over as it stands.” Ex Global wrote.
This is not the first time Ex has expressed the same sentiment towards SA Hip Hop. He previously said that the music being released is no longer attractive to women.
“I’m not going to lie to y’all, the raps are scaring away the baddies from the shows, that’s why SA hip hop events are just squad deep nikkas. Where’s the music that makes you feel like dressing up and balling?? The musical touch? The feel good touch? Make you dance?”
