DJ Speedsta Joins 5FM’s 2025 Lineup. South African hip-hop heavyweight and former Metro FM host, DJ Speedsta, is making a major radio comeback. The renowned DJ has officially joined 5FM’s 2025 lineup, taking the reins of ‘5 Hip Hop Nights’ every Sunday from 19h00 to 22h00. This announcement marks his return to the airwaves after a notable absence since his departure from Metro FM in 2022.

Speedsta’s new role on 5FM places him at the forefront of the station’s hip-hop programming, ensuring listeners get a premium selection of the latest and greatest in the genre. His return to radio is set to elevate Sunday nights for hip-hop lovers, aligning with 5FM’s fresh weekend structure, which includes ‘Piano Plug on 5’ hosted by DJ Tshepi on Saturdays in the same 19h00-22h00 slot. Additionally, Boipelo Mooketsi will hold down ‘5 Weekend Nights’ on both Saturdays and Sundays from 22h00 to 01h00, setting the perfect tone for late-night music enthusiasts.

DJ Speedsta has been playing a crucial role in shaping SA hip-hop culture, taking a break from radio after his exit from Metro FM, where he hosted ‘Absolute Hip Hop’ alongside Lootlove and Jawz. At the time, Speedsta expressed fatigue over various issues at the station, hinting at deeper frustrations. In his farewell post, he wrote:

“We did our thing, Me, Looty, and Jawz. Absolute Hip Hop!! Was so sad to tell auntie Merissa that this was the last invoice we’re doing. When I was at Y we put people on, When I was at Metro we put more people on. I’m glad I could contribute to the culture. In all honesty, I’m tired!! I’m tired of a lot of things. A story for another day. We out, Thank you and goodbye Metro FM family.”
