Reason Reveals His Only Rap Battle Loss Was to Sol Phenduka. South African rapper Sizwe Alakine, also known as Reason, recently opened up about a moment of humility in his career while reflecting on Priddy Ugly’s comeback spirit after his highly publicised boxing match with Cassper Nyovest.

Speaking candidly, Sizwe praised Priddy Ugly for showing resilience after his loss in the celebrity boxing bout, highlighting the courage it takes to bounce back after a public defeat. “I respect Priddy Ugly for coming back after the fight. Taking a knock could make me feel like a lesser person. But to get back up and know yourself and go back in there…” he said.

In comparing himself, the rapper revealed a story from his teenage years that still resonates with him today. Sizwe admitted that he once walked away from the battle stage after suffering his only defeat at the hands of none other than radio personality Sol Phenduka.

“I chickened out, I said this is enough. And also, I only lost one rap battle—to Sol Phenduka, even. We were in high school, I was probably 16 years old,” Sizwe recalled with a mix of honesty and humour.

The confession not only adds a surprising twist to Sol Phenduka’s history but also paints a more human side to Sizwe Alakine, who is celebrated for his lyrical sharpness and consistency in the game. His acknowledgement of defeat underscores the lesson he was reflecting on: the strength it takes to return after setbacks, a quality he now publicly admires in Priddy Ugly.
