When a fan asked who he had in mind while penning the emotional lyrics, Tony surprised many with his candid response. “I wrote that verse while I was in high school, while working on my EP, which is mainly focused on trap as a sound,” he explained. “I felt it was something missing in the project — the softer version of myself.”

Interestingly, the verse was born out of nostalgia and young love. Tony Dayimane revealed that he drew inspiration from his high school experiences, compiling what he described as wonke ama-experience ami — all the stories of affection and vulnerability from those formative years. “Basically, I compiled all my high school love stories where I was yoked to make the perfect love song, and the rest is history,” he shared.

Adding a quirky twist, Tony admitted that he originally wrote the verse over a beat later used by Usimamane for Biggest Kulture. “Funny enough, I wrote it on that beat,” he laughed, noting how serendipity shaped the creative process.

While his EP leaned heavily into trap, Ride or Die became the balancing element — a song that revealed his emotional depth and lyrical sincerity. By revisiting his high school memories, Tony crafted not just a verse but a timeless ode to youthful love, cementing his reputation as one of the most versatile young voices in the game.
