The award-winning artist has officially launched Nasty X: The Fans Built This, a multi-platform campaign that celebrates ten years of music, memories and unwavering fan support. The initiative, which kicked off on 21 June, invites supporters to become part of the story that has defined one of African hip-hop’s most influential careers.

At the centre of the campaign is nastycsa.com, an interactive digital experience where fans can recreate the iconic Bad Hair album cover using their own faces. The project transforms one of South Africa’s most recognisable album artworks into a living tribute to the community that has followed Nasty C from his breakout days to international success.

To accompany the launch, Nasty C has also unveiled a cinematic campaign film that revisits the different stages of his career. Using his ever-changing hairstyle as a visual timeline, the film traces his evolution from an ambitious teenager in 2016 to a globally recognised artist, while highlighting the fans who have been there every step of the way.

Reflecting on the anniversary, Nasty C shared that the campaign is dedicated to the supporters who turned his dream into reality.

“When I dropped Bad Hair, I was just a kid with a dream. Ten years later, I can look back and see how many people have been part of this story. Every stream, every show, every repost, every memory. The fans built this,” he said.

Over the past decade, Nasty C has grown into one of Africa’s biggest music exports, collecting multi-platinum certifications, selling out tours, collaborating with international stars and performing on major festival stages around the world. Projects such as Bad Hair and Strings & Bling helped redefine the possibilities for African hip-hop while building a loyal global fanbase.

Ayanda Ngcobo, Nasty C’s manager and co-founder of Tall Racks, said the anniversary deserved more than a nostalgic social media post.

“This campaign has been designed as a multi-layered experience that allows fans to engage with the legacy in different ways. From the announcement film and fan-powered artwork to digital storytelling, real-world activations and future experiences that will roll out over the coming weeks, every touchpoint has been built around one idea: the fans have always been part of this story.”

Ngcobo added that while Nasty C’s rise is one of South African music’s greatest success stories, it is also a journey shaped by thousands of supporters who believed in him from the beginning.

“Nasty X is our way of celebrating that contribution while creating something that feels modern, participatory and worthy of the moment. We’re celebrating ten years of Bad Hair, but we’re also setting the stage for the next chapter.”

Fans can now visit the campaign website to upload their photos and become part of a collective artwork commemorating the ten-year legacy of Bad Hair. The campaign’s creative development and strategy were led by the newly established agency Society Studios.
