Kid X Reflects On The Impact of AKA and Cassper’s Beef On His Career

Kid X Reflects On The Impact of AKA and Cassper’s Beef On His Career. South African hip-hop veteran Kid X has opened up about the possible impact of the highly publicised AKA and Cassper Nyovest beef on his own career, admitting that being associated with one side of the divide may have influenced how some industry players viewed him.

Speaking to SA Hip Hop Mag, Kid X was asked whether his relationship with AKA and his position within his camp affected the musical moves he wanted to make during a period when tensions between AKA and Cassper were dominating South African hip-hop.
The rapper acknowledged that the rivalry may have had an indirect effect on his career, particularly when it came to collaborations and opportunities outside his immediate circle.
“I think it probably did by extension,” Kid X said. “So being in the camp, I think it sort of paints you with the same brush as everyone in that camp.”
According to the rapper, being closely associated with AKA may have meant that certain opportunities never reached him because of the divisions surrounding the feud.
“There could have been maybe opportunities to work that couldn’t been extended because you are under that umbrella,” he explained. “Unfortunately, those calls never happened.”
Kid X, however, was careful not to frame those missed possibilities as a source of bitterness or regret. Instead, he reflected on the uncertainty of an alternative path and accepted that his career unfolded according to its own course.
“So I would say there possibly could have been opportunities that were lost because of that,” he said. “But I don’t mean lost in the sense of, like an actual now regretful state.”
His comments offer a glimpse into the wider consequences of one of South African hip-hop’s most defining rivalries. While the AKA and Cassper feud was largely centred on the two superstars, its ripple effects extended into the careers and relationships of artists connected to either camp.
For Kid X, his relationship with AKA placed him within a particular circle at a time when alliances in the local hip-hop scene could carry significant weight. Looking back, he acknowledges that things might have unfolded differently had the circumstances been different, but he remains at peace with how his journey played out.
“I think things played out the way they needed to,” Kid X said. “And yeah, who knows what could have happened if it was different.”
Rather than revisiting the past with regret, Kid X’s reflection highlights one of the less-discussed realities of hip-hop rivalries: the people standing around the feud can sometimes feel its impact just as much as the artists at its centre.
