The rapper, producer, singer and sound engineer shared her original song “Change” in an Instagram Reel, describing the track as “a reflection of the times.” Through the song, HendrixX explores themes of compassion, prayer and the need for people to care for one another during a period marked by fear, violence and loss.

The song arrives as South Africa continues to process the discovery of multiple women’s bodies in Kempton Park and surrounding areas in Gauteng. Between mid-July and mid-September 2026, police reportedly recovered the remains of at least eight women, several of them in their 20s and 30s. Some of the cases have involved indications of violence and possible sexual assault, intensifying concerns around the country’s ongoing gender-based violence and femicide crisis.

Among those identified was 38-year-old runner Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo, who went missing while out on an afternoon run. Her daughter raised the alarm after she failed to return home. President Cyril Ramaphosa has called for justice for the victims, while police investigations continue into the deaths and whether any of the cases may be connected.

The developments have left families and communities grieving while renewing concerns about the safety of women in South Africa.

Against this backdrop, “Change” offers HendrixX’s personal artistic response to the atmosphere surrounding the country. The song does not directly address individual victims or claim to explain the Kempton Park killings. Instead, HendrixX uses her music to reflect on the wider climate and encourage listeners to respond with greater care and compassion.

Her accompanying Instagram caption gives further context to the song. She described “Change” as a reflection of the times and encouraged people to love and pray for one another, adding: “The world is cold enough.”

The track continues a recurring thread in HendrixX’s creative work, where music provides space to explore personal and collective struggles. Her work has touched on themes including loss, anxiety, faith, healing and the pressures surrounding life in the music industry.

With “Change,” that introspection extends beyond her personal experiences and towards the wider community. The song arrives at a moment when conversations about gender-based violence and femicide remain particularly painful for many South Africans.

HendrixX has also made the song available on YouTube, allowing listeners to engage with the full audio beyond the original Instagram Reel.

While “Change” does not claim to provide a solution to South Africa’s GBV crisis, it captures HendrixX’s response to a painful moment through music. Her central appeal is one of love, prayer and compassion as the country continues to mourn and seek answers.
