Born Siyabonga Mkhize in KwaZulu-Natal and raised in Midrand, KLY, whose name stands for Keep Love Young, has steadily established himself as one of the distinctive voices in South African R&B. Known for his smooth vocals, emotionally charged storytelling and fusion of trap-soul with African influences, he has developed a sound that connects with listeners beyond local borders.

His musical journey has also seen him work alongside an impressive list of artists, including Emtee, DJ Maphorisa, the late Riky Rick, Patoranking, Wizkid and Mafikizolo. These collaborations have further introduced his artistry to different audiences while strengthening his position in the industry.

The latest milestone marks a notable increase from the 50,000 monthly listeners he celebrated earlier in 2026. His growing catalogue, which includes the reflective isiZulu offering “Ngiyakhumbula,” recent release “Drosty” and popular tracks such as the “Snapdatsh!t” remix, continues to attract listeners. His Spotify profile currently shows more than 72,300 monthly listeners.

Interestingly, KLY’s journey into music came after an early background in dance. He performed during the 2010 FIFA World Cup and was also part of the internationally recognised krump crew 300cru. That creative foundation has since evolved into a music career shaped by projects such as Keep Love Young and KLYMAX, alongside his continued musical output.

While streaming numbers often tell one side of an artist’s story, KLY’s latest achievement speaks to the steady connection he continues to build with his audience. His message was simple, giving credit to the people who have supported the journey rather than making the numbers the centre of attention.

With his monthly listeners continuing to climb, KLY has another reason to celebrate as he keeps his music moving and his philosophy of keeping love young alive.
