Money Badoo Traces Her Roots And Family Legacy In Upcoming ‘The Next Verse’ Episode. Money Badoo is set to take viewers into a deeply personal part of her story when her episode of The Next Verse Season 1 airs this Saturday at 7 PM on DStv Channel 163, Wethu+.

The South African rapper, songwriter and multidisciplinary creative uses the episode to explore the people, places and family connections that have helped shape her journey as an artist. The series follows the lives of five creatives from across South Africa, offering audiences a closer look at their personal stories beyond their work.
For Money Badoo, that journey leads back to her family and the women who came before her. “Versions of us exist in each other. Perhaps that’s what makes creation so sacred. We are all, in some way, reflections of the things that made us. Creators of life, of art, of the world,” she wrote in a post announcing her appearance on the show.
The Ennerdale-raised artist is joined in the episode by her mother and her 96-year-old great-grandmother. Together, they revisit Eldorado Park, the Johannesburg township where both of Money Badoo’s parents grew up, creating an opportunity for the artist to reconnect with the family history behind her own story.
The episode explores her relationship with creativity, family and heritage while highlighting the influence of the women in her life. Money Badoo has chosen not to reveal the full story ahead of the broadcast, leaving viewers to discover the journey when the episode airs.
Her creative path began in church choirs at the age of 12 before she moved into poetry and began rapping over YouTube beats. She later established herself as a genre-blending artist, drawing from hip-hop, trap, R&B, alternative and Afropop.
Her catalogue includes the 2019 breakout single “All My Friends” and projects such as PORN$TAR, M$RYLUV$CMPNY and 4PLAY. Outside of music, she has also worked as a stylist, visual artist and photographer and appeared on Love & Hip Hop: South Africa.
Her work has also taken her beyond South Africa, including performances in Germany, where she has played sold-out shows. The artist also expressed appreciation to those who have followed her career, adding, “To everyone who has supported me on this journey, thank you. I love you guysss.”
