Okmalumkoolkat Explains Decision To Delay ‘iTheku eThekwini’ Album Release
Okmalumkoolkat Explains Decision To Delay ‘iTheku eThekwini’ Album Release. Okmalumkoolkat is giving fans another week to prepare for his highly anticipated album iTheku eThekwini, with the Durban-born rapper confirming a new release date. Originally scheduled to arrive on October 15, 2026, the album will now drop on October 22, 2026.
The famed rapper shared the update in a candid announcement, explaining that the decision followed concerns about the project’s overall online engagement and the number of people who knew the album was about to arrive.
“Quite a lot in the comments there, but we just felt like the engagement was quite low and also just amatamani bebena, this thing is dropping,” he said. “So we pushed it back by literally a week. It’s gonna drop on the 22nd of October. The 22nd, please save. It’s in my bio. You can actually have the link in my bio.”
The seven-day adjustment gives the rapper additional time to build awareness around iTheku eThekwini, a project rooted in his Durban identity and his distinctive approach to South African hip-hop.
The album has been shaped by the overwhelming flow of information and experiences between 2020 and 2025, a period that helped inform its creative direction. Fans have already received a glimpse of what to expect through singles such as “Into Yabantu Ababili” and “Soon As I Land,” featuring Tony Dayimane.
Both releases offer a taste of Okmalumkoolkat‘s signature blend of futuristic hip-hop, experimental production and the cultural influences that continue to shape his sound.
The album’s original announcement was accompanied by striking collage-style artwork celebrating Durban’s identity, featuring elements such as Moses Mabhida Stadium, coastal scenery, Zulu dancers and the city’s vibrant urban landscape.
With the new date now confirmed, Okmalumkoolkat is urging listeners to save October 22 and access the pre-save link through his Instagram bio.
Although the wait has been extended by a week, anticipation for iTheku eThekwini continues to build as the rapper prepares to deliver his latest body of work. The Future Mfana is now set to make his return on October 22.
