Priddy Ugly Weighs In On Hip Hop/Amapiano Debate And Explains What’s Missing In SA Hip Hop. Priddy Ugly is the latest artist to add his voice to the Hip Hop and Amapiano debate that is currently going on in the country. Amapiano at the moment is the hottest sound on the streets, sparking the debate that hip hop is dead, which is something not everyone can agree on.
The Handful Of Dust hitmaker, took to Twitter and shared exactly where he stands when it comes to the hot debate and one thing is clear, he just wants people to rap. Priddy admitted that he knows “Piano is f***in shit up right now” which is great and he loves that, indicating he has no hard feelings towards amapiano. He then told artists to continue rapping “even if it’s on Piano-esque beats” they should rap.
Priddy Ugly even gave props to Madumane (DJ Maphorisa’s rap alter ego) for his fire verse on a piano record. “Madumane has a fire RAP verse on a Piano record! Vernac RAP, trap RAP, whatever – but RAP!” The rapper also got candid and shared he knows “it’s tough” being an artist. He shared some of the feelings artists might be experiencing when it comes to pursuing their passions. “You feel over-looked, overwhelmed by the pressures of life. Pursuing your passion comes with a lot of disappointments & dead ends,” he tweeted.
The rapper in another tweet went on to talk about the current state of Hip Hop. In his tweet, he noted that no one is “going to talk about HIP HOP if the artists are not operating at their highest frequency, especially within the HIP HOP bracket”. This is something most fans could agree with as some fans feel that there are no hot hip hop tracks out at the moment.
He then said that artists need to be excited about hopping into the booth and dropping fire! As “this is going to make the audience as excited to LISTEN & support!” Priddy also set the bar for rappers, which is Best Rap Album. He tweeted that they “need to beat that, then at least the ‘rap level’ is maintained or exceeded.”
Priddy Ugly recently dropped his second album, SOIL a rap album, where he shows off his lyricism and versatility as a rapper. Fans have received the album well, it has even held the number two spot on Apple Music’s Top Album Chart. An excited Priddy celebrated the moment, by sharing with his fans a screenshot of his album’s place on the charts.
