Cassper Addresses Claims That Cotton Fest Is Now Just Another Amapiano Event. Newtown welcomed Cotton Fest JHB in a big way as Mzansi music fans and performers were ready to put on yet another spectacular festival. The event was filled with well-known local musicians for whom the late Riky Rick had a significant influence on their musical careers.

From SA hip-hop artists to Amapiano cats, Newtown was the place to be this weekend. With all the good vibes that came with Cotton Fest, not everyone was in agreement with how the event artist line-up was set up. Taking to Twitter, one of the tweeps lamented that Cotton Fest used to be a hip-hop event but now it’s packed with amapiano artists and there are a few SA rappers.
“Cotton Fest used to be a hip hop event man, now it’s just another amapiano event with a few hip hop artists on the line up,” read the tweet. In response, Cassper Nyovest was one of the artists who refuted the claims.
The rapper argued that Riky was the first about enhancing the music culture and he was the first person to put on Amaroto and JazziQ. “Bullsh*t!!! Riky was bout the culture and listening to the kids. He was the first person to work with Amaroto and Jazziq.”
Despite not being on good terms with Riky following his passing, Cassper Nyovest admitted that he has missed him. “The way ke missang Riky Rick ka teng,” he tweeted. The two enjoyed an out-of-this-world bromance, both publicly and privately, until word of their breakup broke in 2019. They managed to work out their disagreements before Riky died.
