Tshego Explains How He Differs From Other Artists That Seek Clout, The long-term prospects of an artist’s career, as well as their value and uniqueness, are more essential than the statistics generated by a viral moment. However, with the prevalence of social media in this day, clout chasing has become more of a priority point of view, with artists overlooking their value for viral moments.

South African rappers have also been drawn into the pursuit of clout as they devise new strategies to stay relevant in the game. However, there are rappers such as Tshego who are still following up on their artistic uniqueness. Taking to Instagram, the self-proclaimed Pink Panther mentioned the difference between artists like him and those who are after clout.

“We are not the same… Some are only artists when the cameras show up. When the clout aligns just right. Then there are those of us who would not recognise ourselves without making the art. Who would rather die than live without it,” he wrote. “Drop these 2 types on an island alone with just a laptop and you will quickly see who is who. We are not the same.”

Tshego has been a massive contributor to SA hip hop ever since he made his breakthrough in 2016 with the track Hennessy. The rapper has been a victim of record label ill-treatment and he took time to advise other artists on how they should overcome the brouhaha with labels.  “Only thing you should be doing with a major label is finessing them,” he said. The rapper is now an independent artist, and he has released new music as such.
