“Yet we are told we a free?” Zola 7 Bemoans Living Conditions In The Vaal. Renowned South African musician and activist Zola 7 has recently spoken out against the dire living conditions in the Vaal region, questioning the notion of freedom in a country where many continue to suffer from poverty and neglect.
Born Bonginkosi Dlamini, Zola 7 rose to fame in the late 1990s with his socially conscious Kwaito music, using his platform to shed light on the struggles faced by marginalized communities. The award-winning artist expressed profound emotions upon experiencing firsthand the living conditions of ordinary South Africans. He found himself deeply moved, his heart stirred by the realities faced by everyday people in the country.
“This Past weekend I was in the vaal and I couldn’t help but get emotional, that with 30 years of democracy in this country my people still stay in unfavourable conditions. Yet we are told we a free? 30 years what do we have to show? but hey these are conversations people a not ready to have in this country!” Zola 7 said.
In a Twitter video he posted, Zola, whose upbringing in the adjacent community of Soweto deeply ties him to the Vaal region, expressed fervent sentiments regarding the urgent need for immediate action to uplift the lives of its residents.
