Anele Zondo Reveals Why “Thick Slim” Music Video With Nadia Nakai Never Dropped. In 2022, the music cosmos witnessed a celestial collision as Nadia Nakai and Anele Zondo merged their artistic galaxies, birthing the stellar single “Thick Slim.”
This cosmic convergence wasn’t just a meeting of minds; it was a fusion of sonic supernovas, as two of South Africa’s most formidable female rap forces united their talents. “Thick Slim” didn’t just hit the airwaves; it exploded, leaving an indelible mark on the music landscape. Their collaboration wasn’t just a song; it was a symphony of sisterhood, showcasing the boundless power when queens reign together in harmony.
In a revealing moment on SlikourOnLife’s “What A Life” Podcast, Anele Zondo disclosed that she and Nadia Nakai had already crafted a music video, slated for release the previous year. However, the tragic loss of AKA halted their plan.
Ney explained that the music video featured scenes with them holding guns, a choice that suddenly became fraught with sensitivity following AKA‘s tragic demise. Out of deep respect for the grieving South African Hip Hop community, they realized releasing such visuals could potentially trigger painful memories of what happened to the Supa Mega.
“We actually shot the video a few months later. We shot the “Thick Slim” video and it never got out,” Ney said. “We shot it in January and then the unfortunate passing of Kiernan happened then we had to put it on ice because there were scenes that had guns in the music video,” she added.
Anele also divulged that while Nadia Nakai was fine with Anele Zondo releasing the music video, she made it clear she wouldn’t actively promote it “She (Nadia Nakai) was like no babe you can drop it but I can’t promote it. Then I had to think about this thing I was like yoh, I’m gonna drop it and then she’s not gonna feel okay about it and then I’m also not gonna feel okay,” Ney said.
