Cape Town based hip-hop legend YoungstaCPT releases 33 Y?EARS AHEAD OF TIME his final release in his mixtape trilogy 33Y?EARSmarks a pivotal moment in the artist’s career, as this is his 35 release to date and blends fresh sounds, growth, and international collaborations while reflecting on his journey as a young adult.
On this mixtape, YoungstaCPT explores a more upbeat, high-tempo sound compared to his previous projects, designed to capture the essence of South African summer time.
The mixtape combines feel-good music with introspective tracks like NoCountryforOldMenand Lone Wolf, offering a glimpse into his evolution as both an artist and a person.
For YoungstaCPT, 33is not just a mixtape, but a reflection of where he’s at in life:
“It’s my current age. It’s where I’m at in my life right now. I think it can be enjoyed by a mature audience aswell, becauseyoucanhearmaturity.Youcanheargrowth&experienceasayoungadultmovinginto themidlifephaseofmytime.MaybethesearemylastprimeyearssowhateverIdonowI’mgivingitall that I’ve got but with new wisdom and experience”
Some of the standout tracks on the project include SinCity, Compass, and Mochi. Each song has its own unique appeal. Sin City and Compass are throwback West Coast-style tracks, a sound YoungstaCPT hasn’t explored in a while, and he’s thrilled to hear himself on that vibe
once again. Meanwhile, Mochitakes a different approach with a fun, sexy, and slightly x-rated tone, showcasing a playful side that contrasts with his usual street-based material.
A key feature of 33 is the wide array of international collaborations, with producers from around the world contributing to the project. YoungstaCPT had the opportunity to work with Kross, a producer he met in Cape Town and later linked up with in the U.S. “Our chemistry was already strong from the start, so the process was smooth, especially on tracks like ‘Let Him Cook,’” he says. The mixtape also features contributions from Cartunez, a producer he’s been collaborating with online, with the track NoCountryfor Old Men marking the beginning of a new musical partnership. Additionally, Trigga from the U.K. was responsible for two of YoungstaCPT’s favorite tracks, The Compass and Mochi.
In addition to the exciting producer collaborations, the mixtape’s mixing and mastering was handled by
ShaneyJayat Y?GENStudios, marking a significant milestone for the artist.
“This is the first complete body of work to come out of Y?GEN Studios from start to finish, and it feels greatknowingIwassoinvolvedineverystageoftheprocess,”saysYoungstaCPT.“ShaneyJaydidan incrediblejobengineeringtheproject, andI’mreallyproudoftheresult. It’sbeenarealaccomplishment for me and the whole team.”
Looking ahead, YoungstaCPT promises more music in 2025, with plans for more mixtapes and collaborations. “Inshallah, I’m already working on new material, and there’s a lot more to come. I’ll also be doing live shows, so fans can expect a lot of energy on the road.”
