Zola 7 Brings Cultural Storytelling To New Single “Nyembezi Zamatshitshi” Kwaito veteran Bonginkosi Dlamini, popularly known as Zola 7, has added another chapter to his musical comeback with the release of his latest single, Nyembezi Zamatshitshi.
The veteran artist shared the new release on 10 September 2026, accompanied by striking cover artwork that places culture and symbolism at the centre. Zola is pictured seated in an authoritative pose while wearing an orange “IMBUBE” hoodie featuring a prominent lion design and holding a staff. Several women dressed in traditional attire stand in front of him, with a dramatic sunset completing the scene.
The title Nyembezi Zamatshitshi draws from isiZulu, with “nyembezi” meaning tears and “amatshitshi” referring to young women or maidens. The title immediately points toward the emotional storytelling that has remained central to Zola 7’s music throughout his career.
The song continues the artist’s return to music following years in which health challenges, including epilepsy, affected his ability to perform consistently. His comeback gained renewed attention in 2025 with Imbube, featuring Berut and Pretty Masompisi, which later found traction on TikTok.
Zola followed that release in August 2026 with She Nailed It (Amazipho), a tribute to the resilient women in his life produced by Alie Keys. With Nyembezi Zamatshitshi, the kwaito icon continues to build on that renewed creative momentum while remaining rooted in the storytelling and cultural identity that have defined his work.
Born in Soweto’s Zola township in 1977, Zola 7 first became widely known for his role as Papa Action on the acclaimed television drama Yizo Yizo. He went on to establish himself as one of kwaito’s defining voices through projects including Umdlwembe and Bhambatha.
His influence also stretched beyond music through the SABC1 programme Zola 7, where he used his platform to highlight and assist young people facing difficult circumstances. His work across music, television and community initiatives cemented his status as a major figure in South African popular culture.
Nyembezi Zamatshitshi now adds another entry to that legacy as Zola 7 continues to reconnect with audiences through new music.
