Blxckie Reveals What Makes His Musical Chemistry With A-Reece Special

Blxckie Reveals What Makes His Musical Chemistry With A-Reece Special. Blxckie has shared insight into the special creative connection he shares with fellow South African rapper A-Reece, describing it as one of the most valuable relationships he has built within the music industry.

During an appearance on Culture’s Biggest, the Johannesburg-born rapper opened up about the bond, explaining that their relationship is not necessarily built around spending time together or frequently hanging out. Instead, it is their shared understanding of music, creativity and the quality they both strive to deliver that makes their connection stand out.
“It’s the relationship that I appreciate the most,” Blxckie said, highlighting the creative energy they bring out of each other. He further explained that although they do not regularly hang out or go out together, he understands A-Reece’s musical direction and the level of quality he aims to maintain.
That creative understanding has translated into collaborations that have consistently caught the attention of South African hip-hop listeners. Blxckie revealed that whenever he wants to push his sound further and create something beyond what he can achieve on his own, A-Reece is someone he knows he can turn to.
Their musical relationship first took shape through their collaboration on “Sneaky,” after Blxckie sent the record to A-Reece. He recalled being impressed by how the rapper approached the song and the creative possibilities that came with their collaboration.
The two artists eventually shared a studio for the first time while working on “Baby Jackson.” The session happened during Blxckie’s first Somnyama show run in Cape Town, where they turned an Airbnb into a recording space.
Blxckie described the experience as particularly memorable, especially considering everything happening around him at the time. Between performing in a new city, enjoying the excitement of the show run and getting the opportunity to create music alongside someone he considers one of the country’s finest rappers, the experience was one he thoroughly enjoyed.
He also admitted that “Baby Jackson” was the only collaboration that made him feel some pressure while working with A-Reece.
“I only felt that once, and that was for Baby Jackson,” he recalled. “We had some crazy Airbnb studios right there… just doing it. I think it was a few bars each, going back to back to back. And then that’s when I felt it. But at the time I was on such a high… I wasn’t even worried about it. I had so much fun doing that joint.”
Despite recognising A-Reece’s lyrical ability and musical standards, Blxckie explained that their relationship has never been about trying to outdo each other. Their connection is rooted in mutual respect and an understanding of what each brings to the table.
Their collaborations have become notable moments in South African hip-hop, with both artists bringing distinct approaches that complement each other. As the conversation highlighted the consistency of their joint records, Blxckie agreed that the music they create together always delivers.
