Wordz Marks Five Years Of ‘Product of a Praying Mother’ With Nostalgic Message. Wordz Tha Prince is looking back on a defining moment in his musical journey as his debut album, Product of a Praying Mother, officially marks five years since its release.

Taking to Instagram on Sunday, the rapper commemorated the occasion with a heartfelt message, inviting listeners to revisit the project and share the songs that have stayed with them over the years.
“5 YEARS OF ‘PRODUCT OF A PRAYING MOTHER’ ❤️. Walk down memory lane, what’s your favourite song?” he wrote alongside nostalgic visuals celebrating the album.
Released on 31 October 2021, the 12-track body of work introduced listeners to a more personal side of Wordz, with its title carrying a special meaning rooted in his upbringing. As an only child, the rapper has previously reflected on growing up under the protection of his mother’s prayers, making the album a tribute to the woman whose faith played an important role in his life.
That sentiment comes full circle on the closing track, “By Mother Mary,” which features an actual prayer from his mother for her son, Dansi Thabi Baloyi. It is a deeply personal moment that gives the project an emotional touch, turning a mother’s private prayers into a lasting musical dedication.
Beyond its personal message, Product of a Praying Mother showcased the lyrical sharpness, distinctive vernacular delivery and storytelling that helped establish Wordz within Pretoria’s hip-hop movement. The album also brought together an impressive collection of collaborators, including A-Reece on “COP$ and ROBBERS,” Maglera Doe Boy on “MA’DICE,” Dessy Hinds and Thato Saul on “33 CHAMBERS,” BELO SALO on “FUTURE PLANS,” and Maarly on “GARDEN of EDEN.”
With production contributions from MashBeatz, Logical Rhymez and others, the project delivered a cohesive sound that balanced hard-hitting hip-hop with moments of reflection.
Wordz’s anniversary post also gave listeners an opportunity to revisit their personal favourites, with several tracks receiving love in the comments. “Ses’holo Ke Zaka,” “Flawle$$,” “FUTURE PLANS,” “33 CHAMBERS” and “MA’DICE” were among the songs mentioned, highlighting the different moments that made the album memorable for its audience.
Five years later, Product of a Praying Mother remains an important chapter in Wordz’s catalogue. More than just a debut album, it captured his story, celebrated his mother’s faith and introduced listeners to the creative identity that continues to shape his journey in South African hip-hop.
As the milestone brings the project back into conversation, Wordz has left one question for everyone who has been part of the journey: What’s your favourite song from Product of a Praying Mother?
