DJ Maphorisa helps Drake get his first number one. Homie trully has the Midas touch. Drake has his first # 1 song on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart with “One Dance.” The hit brought in 159,595 units of sales after sitting at #5 last week. It surged 32 percent upon the release of VIEWS, which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top 200 albums chart with more than 1 million sales.
Drizzy has had other #1 songs as a featured artist, including “Work” and “What’s My Name,” which are two of Rihanna’s 14 #1 songs. Drake’s first number one was co-produced by DJ Maphorisa who has a lengthy catalogue of hits under his belt and also features Nigerian legend Wiz Kid who needs no introduction.
Back in October, “Hotline Bling” peaked at #2 on the chart. At the time, Drake took to Instagram to say that “no accolades really matter to me other than the fact that I have never had a billboard number one” and to celebrate, “if you are looking for me on that particular evening I will be passed out in the water slide that connects to our pool.” He said it would be especially meaningful because it was his birthday month and the namesake of his OVO, October’s Very Own, brand.
