Author Melinda Ferguson: “AKA was a big mouth”

Individuals connected to the rapper’s life are fervently seeking answers, striving to uncover the perpetrator responsible for extinguishing the life of one of South Africa’s most remarkable talents. Amidst the widespread quest for answers surrounding AKA’s murder, author and journalist Melinda Ferguson stepped into the spotlight by releasing a book about AKA and Anele‘s love story titled “When Love Kills.” Within its pages, she disclosed her own list of potential suspects in the tragic demise of Kiernan Forbes.

Speaking during an interview on CapeTalk radio, the renowned author said that AKA made a lot of enemies citing the beef he had in the music industry with Cassper Nyovest and Nigerian superstar Burna Boy.

“You know AKA was a big mouth, I mean he was brilliant, he was talented, he was a genius producer, he was a genius MC. He was probably South Africa’s most successful hip hop star, but he made a lot of enemies in his life,” Melinda Ferguson said. “He had a big beef with Cassper, I dont think Cassper Nyovest had anything to do with AKA dying.”

She continued; “there were a lot of Nigerians who were very angry with him when he seemed to have this beef with this guy called Burna Boy. There were also ideas that the Club Underworld might have something to do with it because he bought into a club in Durban and there were allegations that he owed money.

“There were allegations that he made very bad business enemies, and he owed people money. There was also another allegation that a group of very angry GBV activist women had hired an Inkabi to take him out. I think these are all interesting ideas on who killed AKA, but obviously I dont know who did,” Ferguson remarked.

The author faced backlash from AKA’s fans once it became public knowledge that she penned a book delving into the life of the deceased rapper and his fiancée. In a statement, the Forbes family distanced themselves from being involved in the writing of the book stating that it’s “distasteful and opportunistic.”

However, in her defence, she mentioned that she didn’t need permission from the families to write the book. “I dont particularly need permission as a journalist to get permission from either families, that might sound heartless but no journalist in writing about the death of Anele Tembe or the death of Kiernan Forbes asked permission from anybody when they wrote stories,” she said.
