Officials have recently announced that they have identified the firearm believed to have been used in the double homicide, bringing them one step closer to apprehending the suspects responsible for the high-profile killings. The two were shot and killed on Durban’s bustling Florida Road in February of this year.

The SAPS has been collaborating closely with various law enforcement agencies and forensic experts to collect evidence and analyze data related to the case. They have also conducted numerous interviews and gathered witness statements to piece together the events leading up to the double homicide.

“The team has already started with more than 6 TB of data. We downloaded more than 25 cell phones as we speak, and the team is analysing every communication and data in those phones. It’s all from people of interest that might contain information.

“Cell phones of people who might have been in the area or might have communicated with the deceased. Or any other people associated with the deceased,” KZN Police Commissioner said.

He additionally mentioned that the police had successfully identified the vehicles utilized on the evening of the homicide. “We’ve identified a couple of vehicles used – some of the vehicles were used as getaway, some were as spotters and some of the vehicles used by people after the fact that we suspect that they are suspects in this.” He said.

The firearm’s identification is expected to provide critical evidence in building a strong case against the perpetrators. “We’ve identified at least one firearm that has been used and positively identified to have shot Mr Forbes on that evening,” he added.

The murders of AKA and Tibz have led to a nationwide outpouring of grief and calls for justice. Both artists were beloved figures in South Africa, with AKA being one of the country’s most prominent musicians and Tibz having made significant contributions to the rapper’s career.

As the investigation continues to progress, the public remains hopeful that those responsible for the tragic deaths of AKA and Tibz will be brought to justice.
