At the funeral, Riky expressed his sadness over Mpura’s passing and also gave words of encouragement to those in pain following Mpura’s passing. “Just like the rest of you, I’m sad that Im not a stranger to moments like these. You would have either lived either an extremely lucky life or an extremely lonely life you haven’t experienced the tragedy of loss. The pain of losing a brother, sister, friend or child. Common sense tells us that the more we experience a situation maybe death doesn’t really have common sense.

We can’t fight with God for the answers cause we will lose every time. We have to have faith that Mongezi is in a happy place. We have to have faith that he is right next to Jesus right now, telling him the best bedtime story. There’s not much more I can say about Mpura’s music that hasn’t been said by the millions of people that mourn him. But what I can say is his real talent was not on the microphone, his real talent was his ability to make everyone around him realise that life was meant for living. He could make you laugh when you really felt like crying, he would pick you up when you felt the world was collapsing on top of you. When you had no more hope, he would look you in the eye and say don’t worry Grootman you will operate this one.

In his speech, Riky spoke about the kind of person Mpura was and thanked his family for sharing their child with the world. “What would he say right now? I’m not sure but I think he would be saying ‘we need to take advantage of every moment that we have left on this earth. He probably be telling us to stop being too busy to make time for the people we love, stop being too busy to make time for the people who love you. He would be telling us to have fun cause when we leave this earth we should leave those we leave behind we good memories, beautiful memories.

I speak on behalf of Tumelo and the rest of Mpura’s industry family when I said to Mongezi’s family, thank you for raising such a beautiful soul. Thank you for allowing us to experience his light in an industry that can be so dark. Thank you for sharing your son with the world”.
