Consequently, this relentless quest for supremacy has underscored the necessity of identifying the paramount MC within the industry. This approach has proven effective globally, and South African hip-hop is no exception.

Speaking during the Making Of Ukhamba Album documentary airing on SABC1, Sjava said that there is no need to have MC of the year in the music industry. “We dont need MC of the year here,” Sjava said. The Zulu rapper emphasized the importance of creating music that carries a message capable of resonating with both the older and younger generations.

He highlighted that musical content should convey messages of love and peace, avoiding violent or offensive language. Consequently, he advocated against the idea of artists competing to prove superiority over one another.

“We must have to create music, something soft, elderly friendly, family music, something that you can play for your parents. No swearing, or violence, it should be about love and motivation, something enjoyable. And for us to get those results we have to be in sync. It’s not about who’s better than the other,” he said.

Sjava and Big Zulu came together and created a 12-track masterpiece under the banner Inkabi Zezwe. The duo has rocked their fans with good music not only by topping the charts on streaming platforms, but they have filled big venues with their memorable live performances across the country.

The Ukhamba album has been submitted for potential inclusion in the upcoming Grammy Awards nominations, specifically in the categories of Best African Music Performance and Best Global Music Performance.
