A Hip-Hop mourns the death of Wandi Nzimande, a strong contributor to the industry through his clothing brand and through being a resident DJ at Kaya FM. Nzimande was loved by many.

SA Hip-Hop Pays Tribute To Wandi ‘DJ1D’ Nzimande Following His Passing! Co-Founder of clothing brand Loxion Kulca and popular DJ Wandi Nzimande has passed away after contracting COVID-19. Nzimande was a resident DJ for more than 10 years at Kaya FM and was loved by many.

His brand Loxion Kulcha produced clothing, shoes, bags, fragrances and accessories in South Africa, Ghana, Nigeria and even going as far as England, France, and Switzerland. The brand was founded by Nzimande and his co-founder Gideon Abrahams.

The news of his passing was confirmed by Johannesburg based radio station Kaya FM. The pioneer passed away at age 44 on the 13th of January 2021 at Olivedale Clinic in Johannesburg.

Members of the South African hip-hop industry took to social media to pay their tributes to the legend.

DJ Zan-D remembers the DJ by positing a photo of the two of them behind Riky Rick and Kwesta as they perform and captions the title “We used to laugh and joke about how big his laptop was compared to mine. I called his a Plasma TV.

The DJ will be remembered for his contribution to SA Hip-Hop through his clothing brand that was founded in 1999. He told Zeitz Mocaa in an interview that hip-hop culture was huge at that time and he wanted to incorporate it heavily in the look of their clothing brand.

In an interview with Talk 702’s Mandy Weiner the founder of Bathu Shoes mentions that Nzimande had the skill to tell great stories.
